A New Milestone in Organizing Drone Races: Széchenyi István University Receives “Club Authorization”

Széchenyi István University has received a new type of authorization — the so-called Club Authorization — from the Aviation Authority. This permit allows the institution to organize FPV (First Person View) events and drone races without the need for separate operational approvals. The decision simplifies and secures low-risk operations while further strengthening the university’s position in Hungary’s drone development ecosystem.

This milestone is not merely an administrative achievement but also a significant professional advancement, reinforcing the university’s innovative role in the development, education, and utilization of unmanned aerial systems (UAS), as well as in related awareness-raising and transformational activities.

The Club Authorization provides a legal basis for carrying out low-risk operations with model aircraft, in accordance with Article 16 of the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/947, making the organization and execution of such events easier and more streamlined.

The issuance of the Club Authorization was based on a corresponding manual that details the procedures for conducting approved activities, including operational, competition, and safety protocols — all aligned with the rules of the university’s previously obtained Light UAS Operator Certificate.

The professional and regulatory background required for obtaining the authorization was provided by Cloud for Intelligent Airplace Zrt.

The Club Authorization enables the legal and compliant execution of FPV and other drone competitions and practice sessions, the active involvement of students in practical flight operations, and the application of safety procedures even in competitive environments.

With this step, Széchenyi István University continues its progress toward becoming a pioneering hub for domestic and regional drone development.
