Innovation and Talent Development: Széchenyi István University Forms Partnership with 4iG Space and Defense Zrt.
4iG Space and Defense Zrt. and Széchenyi István University have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to establish the “4iG SDT – Defence Tech Hub” research center at the Győr Innovation Park. The new hub aims to advance space technology, cybersecurity, and drone research while strengthening Hungary’s engineering education and innovation ecosystem. Through the collaboration, the partners will implement joint research and development projects, internship and scholarship programs, and foster international scientific and industrial partnerships.
4iG Space and Defense Zrt. is Hungary’s first privately-owned large enterprise delivering cutting-edge solutions in the strategic sectors of space and defense technology. Széchenyi István University, in turn, strives to enhance its research, development, and innovation activities, particularly in engineering and technology fields. The strategic agreement serving the mutual goals of both parties was signed in Budapest by Dr. István Sárhegyi, CEO of 4iG Space and Defense Zrt., and Dr. Bálint Filep, President of Széchenyi István University.
As part of the cooperation, the partners will jointly establish the “4iG SDT – Defence Tech Hub” research base at Széchenyi István University’s Győr Innovation Park, providing laboratory infrastructure to support research in drone technology, cybersecurity, satellite communications, sensor systems, and digital decision-support technologies.
The center combines industrial and academic expertise, enabling the realization of pilot projects and technology demonstrations. Closely linked to the cooperation is the USA Accelerator Program operating at the Győr Innovation Park, which offers training and exchange opportunities for students, lecturers, and athletes, supports domestic and regional companies in entering the U.S. market, and strengthens ties between Hungary and Central Florida.
An important element of the partnership is enhancing international visibility. The partners will co-organize scientific conferences, join international research networks, and establish guest lecture and publication partnerships, thereby supporting Hungary’s integration into the global innovation ecosystem.
In the fields of education and talent development, the collaboration will be extensive:
4iG experts will participate in teaching, offer internship opportunities, support the completion of theses and student research papers, launch scholarship programs, and develop career models for young engineers. The partnership also includes the implementation of dual education programs, micro-credential courses, and cooperative doctoral programs.
“4iG Space and Defense Zrt. is committed to technological innovation. Our agreement with Széchenyi István University supports both the training of future professionals and active engagement in international space and defense research networks. The jointly established Defence Tech Hub not only expands domestic research and development capacities but also contributes to Hungary’s global competitiveness,”
– said Dr. István Sárhegyi, CEO of 4iG Space and Defense Zrt.
“At Széchenyi István University, our priority is to ensure that students are exposed to the most advanced technologies and can apply this knowledge during their studies. The partnership with 4iG Space and Defense Zrt. gives new momentum to this mission, enabling projects that provide hands-on experience for our students and allow our researchers to contribute to the growth of both national and international scientific communities,”
– emphasized Dr. Bálint Filep, President of Széchenyi István University.
