A New Dimension in Traffic Management: Introducing the UniParking Application
The system, created by the development engineers of the Digital Development Centre of Széchenyi István University, provides innovative solutions to simplify access and optimise the utilisation of parking spaces. The development, led by Uni Inno Zrt., has resulted in a flexible system supported by artificial intelligence that not only facilitates transport but also provides a cost-effective solution for institutions.
Addressing the growing challenges of traffic management, the UniParking application offers an innovative solution developed by Széchenyi István University’s team. Spearheaded by Uni Inno Zrt., a 100% university-owned enterprise, the project delivers a cloud-based system designed to streamline access control and optimize traffic flow. The modular system is highly adaptable, meeting the needs of diverse facilities, whether for pedestrian or vehicular traffic.
“For pedestrian access, we enhanced the traditional card-based system by introducing virtual cards within the app, enabling both one-time and recurring access,” explained Tibor Daliás, an engineer at the university’s Digital Development Center. For vehicle access, the traditional license plate recognition system was upgraded with an advanced authorization management feature to enable quicker, more efficient entry.
One of the key innovations is an AI-powered occupancy detection system that processes camera images to identify available parking spots in real time. “This eliminates the need for physical occupancy sensors, reducing costs while making it easier for users to locate vacant parking spaces through the app,” Daliás added.

The system’s modular architecture makes it fully customizable to suit the specific requirements of its users. It can be implemented for either pedestrian or vehicle access, in entirely new facilities, or as an upgrade to existing systems.
Modern mobility demands efficient traffic solutions as the number of vehicles continues to rise. Managing and accommodating them, particularly in high-traffic institutions and commercial facilities, has become increasingly complex. “Our innovation simplifies and accelerates access control and traffic management processes. We provide integrated solutions that seamlessly manage both vehicle and pedestrian movements, ensuring precise handling of access permissions. The cloud-based system allows for real-time identification and continuous communication with security systems, keeping traffic flow under control in all scenarios. Additionally, 5G-enabled communication ensures instant data transmission,” summarized the development engineer.
The UniParking system is versatile and can be deployed in shopping centers, sports facilities, office buildings, parking garages, industrial sites, hospitals, public institutions, and tourist attractions. By optimizing parking utilization, the application can also generate additional revenue for facilities.
With this groundbreaking development, Széchenyi István University continues to demonstrate its commitment to fostering innovation and sustainable growth.
